Jose Abreu went 0 for 4 at the plate in yesterdays game against the Twins to end his 17 game hitting streak, but today, a solo Home Run off of Kyle Gibson to hopefully begin a new streak of success for the young star. Abreu began his last streak at a time where it was needed because over the course of just 5 games around the end of April, Abreu's Batting Average slumped from .313 down to .268, his OPB dropped by nearly 50 point and suffered an OPS drop of .15.
May then came around and the tables turned for Abreu who even though he only hit 1 Home Run up until today, has been able to get on base more. Over the course of his 17 game hitting streak, Abreu was htting .318 with 1 Home Run and 7 RBI's. Hitting a Home Run in todays game is the perfect way to start off a new streak, and hopefully Abreu can keep playing the way he has in May, aside for the drop in Home Runs. Maybe this Home Run is a sign of good things to come for Abreu, we can't tell right away, but we can hope for the best for this star.
This is the 4th time in his career that Abreu has a hitting streak of at least 14 games, so there's no reason to believe he won't do it again.
