The bottom of the 8th inning started off nicely for the Mets who had a 2-1 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays. Jack Leathersich got the first two outs of the inning and then Familia came on to notch the 4 out Save. He quickly struck out Josh Donaldson on 3 pitches to end the 8th.
But then the 9th inning happened.
As quickly as the 8th inning ended, the game was tied. The first batter Familia faced in the 9th, Jose Bautista hit his second solo Home Run of the game to tie the game at 2. The bal went nowhere near as far as the one in the 1st inning but got the job done, barely making it over the left field fence.
Familia, who was aiming for his 20th save of the season will have to wait just a bit longer. He was able to avoid total destruction and get out of a Two on One out jam by having Kevin Pillar ground into a Fielders Choice and striking out Danny Valencia.
He needed 26 pitches to get through the inning as the Mets headed into the bottom tied at two.
